The first time when I knew something about tax was when I was a child. I watched an advertisement on TV. An aspiring and energetic businessman walked and smiled in the street, a suitcase in his hand. Under his feet was a broad and clean road where people and cars went to and fro busily. Numerous high-rise buildings erected on both sides of the street. Then spoke a voiceover, “You all contribute to this.” Then I didn’t know what the meaning of this advertisement. I asked my parents of this. They told me that many common buildings were built with tax, such as the park, the road and the bridge, etc. Meanwhile, the tax was levied on each taxpayer.

I was too young then. Even my parents explained it to me, I still felt vaguer about what tax was.
Now I also have been a taxpayer. I felt a little annoyed about the tax. I am only a salary earner. All my money was earned by my hard working. Every month, a little part of my salary has been cut as individual income tax. Although the amount is not much, I still think it equals to robbing money.
I have got a good friend who has opened a restaurant. Every month, she will go to the Tax Collection Office and pay her tax. She does this naturally and seriously.
Once we talked the topic about tax. I held the view that tax was annoying and I didn’t want to pay it. When she heard of this, she disagreed with me and argued that it was the responsibility for every citizen to pay the tax. She said,
“How could you think like that? You see, we live in this country. This country is like our home, the big home. We should do our best to make our home beautiful and prosperous. If we all think this like you and we all don’t pay tax, how can our country having money to build our home?”
I looked at her and pondered. At first I was meant to argue with her. After listening to her view, I felt she was right. We are all the member of this big family. We all should do something to make our family more power and more prosperous.
So my friend, if you still hold the view that tax is annoying and often complain of it, please stop cursing from now on.
